Customer Service

January 2009

January, “in with the new”, is a great time to give your irrigation system a rest and replace some of your older water demanding shrubs with some new drought tolerant choices.  With natural moisture, Drought tolerant plants can easily be established this time of year and be blooming by spring.  This is our rainy season and it is too early to know if our local drought is over.  We are dependent upon water supplied from snow packs in the Northern Sierra Nevada Mountains or in the Colorado River Basin as far away as Wyoming.

At home, our landscapes are our highest water demand, converting yours to low water use or natural plants can be as aesthetically pleasing and reduce your water bill.  Resting your sprinklers and let nature do the work is a grand way to start the New Year.  WE can HELP We will conduct a comprehensive water audit for you and assist you in developing a water efficiency target for your property.

Remember, Rincon, and most of San Diego County Water Agencies are still in a Level Two Drought Alert.  Much of the news has been good; we have met our water savings goals, and water supplies may be recovering.  But multiple years of drought are not “fixed” in just one year.  Moreover, unreliable and unpredictable interruptions of the delivery systems continue to complicate the water supply picture.

Rincon is working to improve its water supply reliability; we are planning for nearly 80% of our water being produced locally from Ocean Desalination and Groundwater.  We will continue to expand the use of water recycling and captured storm water.  These tools will continue to deliver water to meet your needs.  Unfortunately, all the options for cheap and easy water are all sold out.  Water will be increasingly expensive over time.  Reducing water demand in our yards and our homes will continue to save money and preserve our resource.

Start early! Convert your landscape to attractive water/fire smart standards while reposing your eyes, soul, and pocket book.

When the weather turns warm, we will continue to ask that you follow these few simple rules:

  • Irrigate only between the hours of 7:00 pm to 9:00 am to reduce water loss to evaporation.

  • Repair leaks as soon as possible or within 72 hours if you are notified by the District.

  • Do not allow water to run off your property; it is not helping any one.

  •  Adjust your sprinklers and your timer to eliminate runoff and provide only the amount of water your plants need.

Make your water count! Call us when you need assistance on water issues, we have a knowledgeable team.
