The Rincon del Diablo Municipal Water District has a 42 square mile service area with a population over 130,000 which encompasses most of the City of Escondido, parts of the City of San Marcos and unincorporated areas of San Diego County. The District supplies potable water to over 8,000 connections serving a population of approximately 30,000. Currently, all of the potable water provided by the district is imported. The District receives imported water from the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta in Northern California and the Colorado River via the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD) and the San Diego County Water Authority (SDCWA).
The District also provides reclaimed water for irrigation, fire protection and industrial uses and is expanding the "recycled water" system to reduce the dependency upon imported water.
The Rincon Fire Protection District provides fire and emergency services for 11,000 residents in the unincorporated communities within the Rincon Boundary.
The mission of the Rincon del Diablo Municipal Water District:
To deliver quality water to meet present and future needs in an environmentally and economically responsible manner, maintain infrastructure integrity, foster conservation, and maintain excellence in service as stewards of a natural resource for the public trust.
